Cracks have started to appear in the NC-Congress alliance as senior leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) from the Banihal constituency have voiced strong opposition to the party’s alliance with Congress, expressing concerns regarding the seat allocation in the region.

At an emergency meeting held on Saturday, chaired by JKNC leaders Sajjad Shaheen and Dr. Shamshada Shan, party workers and leaders, according to Srinagar-based news gathering agency, unanimously rejected the proposed alliance, highlighting their dissatisfaction over the potential candidateship arrangements for the Banihal seat.

During the meeting, Sajjad Shaheen stated that the alliance had created unease among local party members and supporters, who fear the deal might undermine JKNC’s position in the constituency. Party leaders emphasized the need to respect grassroots sentiment and reiterated that they would oppose any candidate imposed through the alliance that doesn’t reflect the will of the local workers.

The discontent comes as the JKNC-Congress alliance moves forward in other constituencies across the region. However, the situation in Banihal remains a point of contention as leaders argue that any compromise on candidateship could weaken JKNC’s foothold in this key area.

The meeting ended with a resolution to continue engaging with party leadership to ensure that the sentiments of Banihal’s JKNC workers are taken into account in the final decision-making process. (KDC)
