Crime Branch registers FIR against Mumbai property dealer for duping Jammu engineer

JAMMU: Crime Branch (CB), Jammu and Kashmir, has registered an FIR against Mumbai-based property dealer for duping Jammu’s private Engineer of Rs 88.50 lakhs on the pretext of providing 3BHK flat at Mumbai and started an in-depth investigation.

“A written complaint was received in Crime Branch wherein the complainant namely Engineer Bonish Behal, son of Shakti Kumar Behal, resident of Dogra Bhawan, old Janipur, Jammu alleged that Ashish Dinesh Kumar Shah, son of Dinesh Kumar Shah, resident of 2102 Neminath Avenue Tapsya CHS Ltd SVP Nagar Plot No 21 Mhada, Mhada Layout Versova Andheri West, Mumbai cheated him on the pretext of allotment of flat in Mumbai,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Crime Branch, Jammu, Benam Tosh said.

The complainant, SSP said, met the accused at Mhadeshwar temple located in SV Nagar, Bungalow, Madha, Andheri West Mumbai and identified himself as an investor and builder who provided flats or plots at discounted rate because of his strong and deep-rooted relations with all the builders across Mumbai.

In March, 2023, the accused showed some pictures to the complainant of an under-construction building. The complainant transferred an amount of Rs 88.50 Lakhs through online, cheques and cash modes on different dates in the account of the accused.

“Thereafter, the complainant approached the accused for providing the flat but the accused used dilly-dallying tactics and neither provided the flat nor did he return the amount,” SSP said.

“A case FIR No 05/2025 has been registered at Police station EOW, Crime Branch, Jammu (CBJ) and an in-depth investigation has been started,” SSP said.

He advised the people to make payments only after getting authentic and genuine documents pertaining to any property situated in or outside J&K and after verifying the credibility and credentials of the property dealers or sellers.(Agencies)
