SRINAGAR : The Cultural Unit Kashmir of Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) J&K in collaboration with S.P. College, Srinagar, organized a significant Road Safety and Traffic Awareness Program at the College Auditorium, here.
The event aimed to educate students and youth on the critical importance of adhering to traffic rules and fostering a culture of responsible road behavior.
The program began with the presidential address by the Principal of S.P. College, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Farooq Mir. He highlighted the growing concerns over reckless driving and the urgent need for students to act as ambassadors of road safety. He stressed that awareness among the youth is the first step toward reducing accidents and saving lives.
RTO Kashmir, Qazi Irfan provided valuable insights into the consequences of traffic negligence. He discussed the devastating outcomes of over-speeding, drunken driving, and non-compliance with traffic rules. “Every life lost to a traffic accident is a preventable tragedy,” he remarked, emphasizing the collective responsibility of citizens to ensure safer roads.
The Cultural Officer, Kashmir, Burhan Hussain underscored the alarming rise in traffic violations and their tragic consequences, urging students to lead by example in their communities. He emphasized that “responsibility begins with individuals” and called on the youth to respect traffic laws, wear helmets, and avoid distractions while driving. His words resonated deeply with the audience, leaving a lasting impact.
The event also featured a thematic skit by the Shahr-e-Khaas Literary & Cultural Welfare Society, which creatively illustrated the importance of traffic awareness. The performance captivated the audience, particularly the younger participants, reinforcing the messages shared by the speakers.
A speech competition on road safety saw Shayan Showkat (10th Semester, Botany) securing first place, Mohammad Behzad Khan (1st Semester, Physics) taking second place, and Basit Bashir (1st Semester, Physics) winning third place.
The program concluded with a felicitation ceremony recognizing the winners and contributors. This initiative by the Cultural Unit Kashmir and S.P. College reaffirmed their dedication to addressing critical societal issues and empowering youth to take the lead in promoting road safety.
