DC Kupwara chairs DCDC meeting, reviews Cooperative sector

KUPWARA : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan today chaired the District Cooperative Development Committee (DCDC) meeting at  DC office Complex here to review the Cooperative sector in the district.

During the meeting, Assistant Registrar Cooperatives (Headquarters) Kupwara, Irshad Jeelani, while giving the overview of the present status of cooperative societies in the district, informed the chair that the department has taken several initiatives to strengthen the cooperative movement in the district.

It was given out in the meeting that there are a total of 48 Functional Cooperative Societies in the district which include 22 PACS (Primary Agriculture credit Societies), 5 Cooperative marketing societies, 6 Sales and service societies, 4 tribal Sale and service societies, 5 Poultry co-operative societies, 4 Dairy Co-operative societies besides 119 Cooperatives (Under J&K Self Reliant cooperative Act 1999).

Chair was apprised that total membership of 22 PACS in the district is 19816 and out of total 385 Panchayat Halqas, 315 Panchayat Halqas have been covered by PACS.

The DC directed the Cooperative department and other allied departments to work towards the objective of strengthening the cooperative movement in the district and deepening its reach to the grassroots level. She further directed the concerned officials to make vigorous efforts to increase the viability of PACS and diversify their business activities to make them vibrant economic entities at grass-roots level.

The DC also reviewed the progress of adoption of model by-laws of PACS for making them multipurpose and Multidimensional.

While reviewing the district wise targets for establishing new Multipurpose PACS or Primary Dairy/ Fisheries cooperative societies in uncovered Panchayats/Villages, the DC directed the Cooperative department to cover the uncovered areas and Panchayats and handhold the PACS properly to make their activities successful.

DC further directed to establish Rural Haats in all sub divisions of the district.

The meeting was attended by DGM, NABARD, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kupwara, AD Fisheries, AD Food, and other officers.
