DC Kupwara chairs meeting of Road Safety Committee

Directs for submission of draft Road Safety Plan within 15 days

The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kupwara, Doifode Sagar Dattatray today convened a meeting of the Road Safety Committee and implementation of the District Road Safety Action Plan.

The meeting took threadbare discussion to implement measures for preventing road accidents in the district.

The DC asked concerned officers regarding the implementation of decisions taken during the previous meeting and received feedback from them.

He asked ARTO to prepare a preliminary draft of the Road Safety Plan within 15 days and submit it to his office. He directed him to compile the data of accidents, victims and deaths and ensure complete mapping of the last 10 years. He also directed the ARTO to intensify road safety awareness across the district.

The DC directed R&B, PMGSY and BEACON authorities to identify black spots/ blind curves on roads in their respective jurisdictions and ensure erection of signage, speed breakers and lights, so that road accidents are minimized.

He also directed the Chief Medical Officer to submit a proposal to the department for establishment of Trauma Care facilities on hilly roads of Karnah, Keran and Machil.

The Executive Officer MC Kupwara was directed to draw the white line with road paint from Bus Stand to Lolab Bypass to demarcate the road and parking of vehicles. He was also directed to complete the installation of 500 lights in the Kupwara town.

Traffic department was asked to put up detailed data regarding challans and other related activities to minimise the accidents.

The ARTO (Member Secretary of the Committee), Chief Medical Officer, District Information Officer, Executive Engineers, Police Officers and other concerned were present in the meeting.
