Kupwara : The Deputy Director of Rural Sanitation, Kashmir, conducted an extensive field visit across various Gram Panchayats (GPs) in Kupwara district on Wednesday. The visit aimed to assess the functioning of sanitation assets in the region, covering Heri-B and Gulgam-B GPs in Block Qadirabad, Batergam GP in Block Kupwara, Khumriyal GP in Block Kalaroos, and Drugmulla GP in Drugmulla Block.
During the visit, the Deputy Director inspected key sanitation infrastructure, including soak pits, Plastic Waste Management Units (PWMUs), segregation sheds, and other related facilities. The assessment focused on evaluating the effectiveness of these assets in improving sanitation and hygiene in the region.
Significantly, the Deputy Director identified two feasible sites for the establishment of Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTP) in Gulgam-B and Drugmulla. The sites were deemed suitable for the development of FSTPs, which are crucial for enhancing waste management in the area.
The Deputy Director emphasized the importance of establishing FSTPs and instructed Block Development Officers (BDOs) to expedite the land clearance process with the revenue department, a necessary step in preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Instructions were also given to BDOs and Panchayat Secretaries to ensure that door-to-door waste collection and disposal are conducted in accordance with established guidelines.
