Kupwara: Director Fisheries Jammu & Kashmir, A. M. Tak, accompanied by Joint Director Fisheries (North), Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, conducted an extensive visit to District Kupwara to assess fisheries infrastructure, distribute financial assistance, and promote modern aquaculture practices.
The visit commenced at the Assistant Director Fisheries Office, Kupwara, where they were warmly received by Assistant Director Fisheries, Dr. Salman Rauoof Chalkoo. During the event, they distributed cheques amounting to ₹21 lakhs to the fishermen community under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for livelihood and nutritional support. Additionally, ₹32 lakhs were provided to beneficiaries for the establishment of live fish vending centers under PMMSY, aimed at enhancing market accessibility for fish farmers.
At the Carp Fish Farm in Shuloora, they stocked a newly established carp pond, developed under the Capex Budget, reinforcing the department’s commitment to expanding aquaculture infrastructure.
Continuing their visit, at the Carp Fish Farm in Bohipora, they conducted a survey for the establishment of modern aquaculture practices, particularly focusing on the implementation of a Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS) to promote sustainable and high-yield fish farming.
At the Trout Rearing Unit in Kutlari, Director Fisheries J&K distributed cheques under PMMSY, amounting to ₹8.80 lakhs for general category beneficiaries and ₹9.90 lakhs for women beneficiaries, encouraging private-sector trout farming. Additionally, farm implements were provided to newly selected farmers under PMMSY. The officials also reviewed the sanctioning and commissioning of the Kutlari farm upgradation under the NABARD scheme, marking a significant step towards strengthening fisheries infrastructure in the region.
The visit concluded at the Carp Fish Farm in Kohru, where they stocked another newly established carp pond under the Capex Budget, further reinforcing efforts to enhance fisheries development in the district.
This visit underscored the Department of Fisheries’ ongoing commitment to supporting fishermen, improving aquaculture infrastructure, and introducing modern fisheries practices to boost fish production and economic growth in Jammu & Kashmir.
