BANDIPORA : On International Labour Day, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora in collaboration with Labour Department Bandipora today organized an awareness programme at National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Mantrigam, here.
The programme was organized under the chairmanship of Chairman DLSA Bandipora, Amit Sharma and guidance of Secretary DLSA Bandipora, Nusrat Ali Hakak.
On the occasion, Assistant Labour Commissioner Bandipora Arif Ahmad, HOP NHPC Prag Saxsena, General Manager Mechanical Sanjay Kumar, SMHR Kanchan Thakur besides a large gathering of people were present.
Dignitaries spoke about the historical significance of May Day and its celebration. They spoke how May Day or Labour Day is recognized globally in order to help the labour class understand their rights and fight for equality in the workspace, mark the labour movement and worker’s rights and shared that it is an occasion that pays gratitude and respect to workers and their contribution in building the society.
The speakers brought to light that this day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocates eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.
