At approximately 1545 hours, a police Naka party led by ASI Mushtaq Ahmad (No. 215/AWP), in-charge of the checkpoint, was conducting routine checking of vehicles and pedestrians near Khazanmatti, falling under the jurisdiction of Kralpora Police Station. During the operation, one individual travelling on foot from Trehgam towards Kralpora was noticed acting suspiciously. Upon spotting the Naka personnel, the individual attempted to flee the area.

Demonstrating alertness and swift coordination, the police party on duty promptly chased and apprehended the suspect, preventing his escape. Upon questioning, the individual identified himself as Reyaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Khazer Mohammad Ganie, resident of Kralpora.

Subsequent to his apprehension, a thorough personal search was conducted, which led to the recovery of approximately 1 kilogram of Charas-like substance. The contraband was cleverly concealed within maize husks, indicating an attempt to smuggle the narcotics discreetly.

Following the recovery, a formal docket was submitted by ASI Mushtaq Ahmad for the registration of a case. Accordingly, an FIR bearing No. 25/2025 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kralpora. Investigation into the matter has been initiated and further questioning of the accused is underway to unearth possible links and networks involved in the illegal narcotics trade.

The Kupwara Police remains committed to its mission of making the district drug-free and continues to act firmly against drug traffickers and peddlers.
