The enrollment drive initiative by Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) aimed at encouraging the parents and guardians to enroll their wards in government-run schools has met with fair success over the last few years. Buoyed with the response, the Directorate at the top with able support from respective CEOs, Principal DIETs, HODs of DIETs, Deputy CEOs, DEPOs, DIET faculty, Zonal Education Officers, and Zonal Education Planning Officers and teachers alike continue to campaign vigorously to make the people understand about the educational standards in government-run schools. As the COVID threw life out of gear, there were many students who turned drop-outs and to attract them back was always going to be a tough and challenging task, but thanks to the (enrollment) drive that such children not only joined back but have excelled in curricular and extracurricular activities alike. There isn’t even a speck of doubt that government teachers aren’t well-qualified or better educated but somewhere down the lane it needs to be accepted that the dedication is somewhat missing, which perhaps is also a big factor forcing the parents and students to turn their back towards these institutions. If the government teachers show a bit more dedication towards the students, one reckons the day isn’t too far when we will see more admissions in government-run schools only. The way these teachers have been trying to woo the parents and students through this enrollment drive, on the onset of new academic year, they just need to take it a step forward and actually take a cue as to see what the educational standards’ demand for the whole academic year and how can they retain these standards to make the things better for the larger benefit of society – especially for those belonging to the underprivileged sections.
