The Government of India sensing the need and importance for conservation of water, amid considerable depletion of water table, launched a flagship programme under ‘Mission Amrit Sarovar’ in April 2022 with an aim at developing and rejuvenating 75 water bodies in each district of the country as a part of celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Since the launch of the programme, the authorities on ground are galloping ahead to make all the possible efforts to make it a grand success across the country and in the Union Territory of J&K alike. Keeping pace with the demand, the frontier district Kupwara under the august leadership of incumbent Deputy Commissioner Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattarray, has emerged on top for having completed 387 Amrit Sarovars – 304 under MGNREGA and 83 under UT Capex with 73 others under hammer – across all the districts of Union Territory of J&K, during the financial year 2022-23. The feat achieved by the administration, in coordination with different departments, is quite heartening given its remoteness and geographically mountainous terrain of the district. The Kupwara is fast emerging on the developmental landscape across the Union Territory with the district administration, expectedly, leading the things from the front. The incumbent Deputy Commissioner Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattarray deserves due praise for his clinical approach and administrative acumen to make his stint worth memorable to the local populace. It nonetheless is raising the expectation bar and one does genuinely hope the administration will shift its focus towards other sectors as well to make the things more easy and convenient for the people of the frontier district.
