The heart is the source of all of a man’s desires, fancies, intuitions, and other potential positive or negative traits. The Quran emphasises spiritual disorders that ruin the heart on several occasions. Even though these ailments have little effect on a person’s physical health, they harm the heart. The glorious book of Allah and the Hadith are now very loud about the necessity of heart purification and how to do it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Verily, in the body is a piece of flesh which, if sound, the entire body is sound, and if corrupt, the entire body is corrupt. Truly, it is the heart.” Since the heart controls a person’s bodily, emotional, and spiritual selves, it must be free from corruption because the hearts of unbelievers are corrupt and sealed. The most fatal affliction is that corrupted hearts reject rather than perceive the truth. In one of the chapters of the Quran, the exalted lord says, “So have they not traveled through the earth and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts.” [Quran, 22: 46] The main heart disorders are greed, jealousy, ego, resentment, apathy, lust, illegal urges, and so on and so forth. Such disorders must be pulled from the heart in order to maintain the sound heart. Abdullah ibn Amr reported: We said, “O Messenger of Allah, who are the best people?” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him said , One with a heart swept clean and truthful in speech. We said, “O Messenger of Allah, we know the truth in speech. What is a heart swept clean?” The Prophet said: One that is God-fearing and pure, in which there is neither sin, nor transgression, nor envy. We said, “Who shows a sign of it?” The Prophet said, One who despises worldliness and loves the Hereafter. We said, “And who shows a sign of it?” The Prophet said: A believer with good character. We pray to Allah to grant us a content and pure heart. Ameen!
