During winters Fire incidents usually see a spike in the valley. This is mainly due to electric short circuits happening in both rural and urban areas , use of electric gadgets , traditional charcoal kangri . The negligence of handling all these are behind a marked rise in such incidents.

The Fire and emergency deptt data says that 1857 structures were gutted last year. Fire and department should lead a high level campaign to aware citizens of what should be done in such situations. At the same time people must use adequate and be very cautious during winters.

The recent north Kashmir incident has shocked everyone. It also lays stress on full preparedness of Fire and Emergency Services Department to launch quick fire fighting operations. Required measures are must to prevent the fire incidents.
