Editorial | Women – Half of Humankind!

There are distinctive kinds of prejudices and inequalities in the globe, mostly directed at women. Worldwide, including in developing, developed and poor countries in all continents, women confront a variety of problems and forms of discrimination. Domestic violence and rape, which have been used as tools to harm women for millennia, are still prevalent and ironically on the rise. On the one hand, proclamations of women’s liberation are brazenly popular, yet as said the violence against women is on the rise. There is a big disconnect between what is being argued for, shouted out for, and spoken in public forums. There everyday are more and more reports of domestic, sexual, physical, and emotional violence against women all across. A 2020 UN assessment claimed that the COVID epidemic, in addition to the other havoc it caused, was responsible for the dramatic increase in domestic violence cases even at a time when well established laws are already in place. To make the globe a safer place for women to live in, nations must wake up and start cooperating to put an end to such sham practices which denigrate the dignity of the women. In all regions, states, countries, and continents, what is commonly referred to as gender equality is not consistent with reality. In an effort to achieve aims, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like gender equality and other endeavours which primarily stress on women empowerment needs to be translated to say applied in practicality. We need to understand that when half of humankind is denied respect, safety, and honour, the world will never be a safer or a progressive place to live in.
