Police sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that an FIR number 277/ 2021 under section 353 of Indian penal code, 13 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) was registered at police station Budgam after family members, relatives and other ‘miscreants’ raised anti Indian Slogans and putting Pakistani flag on Geelani’s body at his residence in Hyderpora on the night of September 1 and 2.

They said further investigation of the matter has been set into motion.

The Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s, died on September 1 at his residence in Hyderpora Srinagar and was given a quiet burial before the sunrise on Thursday amid high security.

Geelani’s family alleged that the police forcibly took his body and quietly buried it at a graveyard near his residence at 4.45 am and only a handful of people were allowed to attend his funeral prayers.

Geelani’s son Naeem Geelani said that nobody from his family was allowed to attend the burial.

Naeem said it was the Jammu and Kashmir police who gave Geelani his last bath. They also dug his grave and buried him after giving a funeral prayer. “All this was done in our absence and none from family attended his burial or funeral prayers”, he said.
