FMD Round 6 Vaccination Drive Launched under NADCP in Kupwara

Kupwara : On the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, Ms. Ayushi Sudan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Gulzar Ahmad formally launched the FMD Round 6 Vaccination Program under the flagship National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) in the district today. The event took place in the presence of Dr. Shabir Ahmad Teli, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kupwara.
Under this vital initiative, a total of 1.20 lakh eligible bovine population across the district will be vaccinated free of cost in a mission mode within the stipulated timeframe. The programme aims to prevent the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), ensuring better animal health and improved rural livelihoods.
To ensure effective coverage, 109 Vaccination Squads have been constituted to operate across 406 villages and municipal committees in the district. In a first-of-its-kind move, the department has deployed ‘Vaccination Express Vehicles’—comprising 5 motorcycles and 3 four-wheeled vehicles—to reach remote and far-flung areas, leaving no animal unvaccinated.
The launch event was attended by officers, Veterinary Assistant Surgeons (VASs), and field staff. The chair emphasized the importance of maintaining the cold chain throughout the vaccination process, completing assigned targets in a time-bound manner, and ensuring real-time entry of data on the NDLM portal.
