GDC Kralpora Celebrates International Women’s Day

KUPWARA: Government Degree College Kralpora, in collaboration with District Social Welfare Office Kupwara, today organised one-day conference on International Women’s Day under the aegis of G20 Summit 2023.

Principal Govt. Degree College Kupwara, Prof Mohd Shafi Lone presided over the event as the Chief Guest.

The Program was attended by various officers of District administration Kupwara including Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Mr Ghulam Nabi
Bhat, Deputy Superintendent of Police DAR Kupwara, Mr. Syed Mujahid UL Haq, Mrs Sameeksha Sagar, and Station House Officer Kralpora, Mr Ajaz Ahmad Shiekh.

The college had invited two resource persons, Dr Irfana Sharief Makhdoomi and Ms Refat Wani, for delivering lead speeches on the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.”

The program commenced with the recitation of a few verses from Holy Quran by Israt Guffar. This was followed by a beautiful Naat, recited by Ishrat Mohiuddin.

The Principal of the host college and the patron of the event, Prof Dr Abdul Rashid Malik delivered the Introductory Remarks and he also made the formal welcome address. Dr Malik talked about the need to uplift women in terms of education.
Prof (Dr) talked about the ways that can be adopted to eradicate social evils. He laid stress on the need to impart education to girl children in order to empower
them. He also discussed about the need to give equal share out of property to women.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Mr Ghulam Mohd Bhat, talked about a plethora of issues that concern women: social justice, education, technology.
He advised the female students to immerse themselves in productive
discussions and debates apart from their usual academics.

The DySP DAR Kupwara, Mr Mujahidul Haq (KPS) highlighted the issue of crimes related to women and he raised awareness about legal advice necessary for obtaining your rights.
The first resource person, Dr Irfana Rehman Makhdoomi, talked about the contribution of women to our society throughout history. She also highlighted different forms of violence meted out to women: domestic, economic and sexual. She observed that this violence can only be erased once women raise their voice.
The second resource person, Refat Wani, said that women are already empowered, and they are open-hearted. She also spoke about the different steps like education that can improve the lives of women. She also recited some beautiful verses to highlight the contribution of women to the society.

In the afternoon session, a speech competition on the theme Women
Empowerment was organised in which students from different colleges, Tufail Ahmad Khatana, Sadaf Saleem and Ruqaya Gulzar from GDC Kralpora, BHSS
Kralpora and GDC Kralpora respectively, bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions.

International Women’s Day was also celebrated at Government Degree College Handwara, while as another function was held at Public Park Bohipora Kupwara by NRLM/ JKRLM.
