General Lok Adalat held across Kupwara district

754 cases taken up; Rs.52.42 lakh settled

KUPWARA : District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kupwara today organized a General Lok Adalat across District Kupwara in which a total number of 07 benches were constituted for taking up 754 cases of various nature including civil, matrimonial, maintenance, domestic violence, recovery of money or loan, motor accident compensation, revenue, criminal compoundable and cheque bounce cases etc.

At District Head Quarter Kupwara, three benches were constituted by Secretary DLSA Kupwara, Muzamil Ahmad Wani, out of which one bench was presided over by Principal District & Sessions Judge Kupwara, Khem Raj Sharma along with Bar President Kupwara, one bench was presided over by Sub-Judge Kupwara, Rajiv Tadyal along with Vice President Bar Association Kupwara and another bench was presided over by Munsiff Kupwara Altaf Ahmad along with Secretary Bar Association Kupwara.
At Handwara Headquarter, two benches were constituted by Chairman TLSC Handwara, one bench was presided over by Madam Ms. Umi Kulsoom, Additional District & Sessions Judge Handwara and another bench was presided over by Adnan Naqashbandi, Munsiff Handwara.
Similarly benches were constituted at Headquarters of Sogam and Tangdar for disposal of cases through amicable means.

Out of the total cases taken up before all the benches in the General Lok Adalat, 455 cases were settled on spot by intervention of the benches and by participation of the lawyers and litigants. The settled cases included cases from MACT and Bank recovery which led to a total settlement amount to the tune of Rs 52,42,800.

Lawyers and litigants participating in the General Lok Adalat expressed their joy in early disposal of the cases through mutual settlement.
