Jammu : The Gujjar Bakerwal Students Alliance (GBSA) has strongly opposed the alleged violation of Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Rules, 2005 (SRO 294), UGC guidelines, and Supreme Court rulings in the ongoing recruitment process at the University of Kashmir.

Chief Spokesperson of GBSA, Amir Choudhary, highlighted that the recruitment process appears to be favouring candidates who are not domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir, a blatant disregard for the state reservation policy. “This is a clear injustice to the indigenous Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates of Jammu and Kashmir. The J&K Reservation Rules unequivocally reserve specific vacancies for permanent residents of J&K, ensuring the protection of the rights of marginalised communities,” said Amir Choudhary.

General Secretary of GBSA, Sakib Zabir, stressed the importance of adhering to the law, stating, “The University of Kashmir must take immediate corrective action to ensure compliance with the reservation rules. It is unacceptable that recruitment norms are being manipulated, depriving the deserving indigenous candidates of their rightful opportunities.”

Adding to the concerns, Muzzaffar Choudhary, Vice President of GBSA, expressed disappointment over the negligence of the authorities. “We trust the University administration to uphold the law and safeguard the interests of the underprivileged sections of society. The current irregularities undermine the credibility of the institution and the rights of our community,” he stated.

The GBSA has submitted a formal representation to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, urging the administration to review the recruitment process in compliance with SRO 294 and UGC guidelines. Copies of the representation have also been forwarded to key officials, including the Pro Chancellor, Registrar, Cabinet Minister for Education (MHRD), UGC Chairman, and the Honourable Tribal Affairs Minister of J&K.

The Alliance has warned of further action if the grievances are not addressed promptly, reiterating its commitment to protect the rights of Gujjar Bakerwal and other marginalised communities in the region.
