New Delhi : In a strong denouncement of the spread of religious fundamentalism worldwide, Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), emphasized the need for compassion, kindness, peace, truth, and harmony amidst global turmoil. Speaking at the second International Conference for Young Buddhist Scholars on Buddha Dhamma and its applications in education, scientific research, healthcare, and well-being, Dr. Joshi highlighted the importance of saving the world through Dhamma, taking on the challenge of fostering these values.
The conference, organized by the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) with support from the Ministry of Culture and the Ambedkar International Centre, featured 15 papers from young academicians and researchers from seven countries. Attendees included members of the diplomatic community from Thailand, Bhutan, Cambodia, and the Republic of Korea.
His Eminence, the 8th Chokyong Palga Rinpoche from Ladakh, stressed the need for Buddha Dhamma to evolve with the times to stay relevant, urging young scholars to spread messages of peace, harmony, and love. The Secretary General of IBC, Shartse Khensur Rinpoche Jangchup Choeden, called for the establishment of university departments dedicated to studying the linkages between Buddha Dhamma and science.
The conference covered diverse topics, including mental well-being, educational applications, and the transformation of Cambodian society post-Khmer Rouge.7 Highlighting Thailand’s integration of Dhamma in education, Supadcha Srisook shared insights on the collaborative efforts between house, temple, and school to cultivate students’ physical and mental well-being.
The primary objective of the conference was to create a platform for young researchers to share insights, engage in scholarly pursuits, and advance knowledge in Buddhist Studies. By fostering interdisciplinary discussions and promoting collaboration, the conference aimed to address contemporary challenges and enhance the quality of life through the teachings of Buddha Dhamma.
