Kupwara : JNV Potshai Lolab Thursday organized a Youth Parliament event, with the aim of providing students firsthand knowledge of how parliamentary procedures work.
The event was attended by former MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Rajinder Kumar Verma, Assistant Commissioner of JNV Chandigarh, and Mohammed Hussain, Principal of JNV Potshai Lolab.
During the parliament session, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, the former MLC, Rajinder Kumar (AC of JNV Chandigarh), and Mohd Hussain (Principal of JNV) served as judges.
Former MLC Qasir Jamsheed Lone appreciated the Principal of JNV for organizing such programs, where students could learn how members of parliament discuss issues, move and pass bills through voting, and understand other functional aspects of the parliamentary process.
The event was a great success, generating enthusiasm and interest among the students, as evidenced by their active participation.
AC Rajinder Kumar explained that subjects chosen for discussion in the Youth Parliament should be non-controversial whenever possible. The topics discussed may relate to welfare activities, social justice, social reforms, economic development, communal harmony, education, government welfare schemes, health, and students’ discipline. Speeches should avoid direct or indirect remarks that cast aspersions on political parties or leaders.
The Youth Parliament serves as a replica of the parliamentary system, with its primary goal being to educate students about parliamentary procedures, rules, and regulations. JNV Potshai Lolab prepared a group of students to participate in the Youth Parliament competition, with approximately 60 students from various classes (8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th) taking part.
These students tackled contemporary issues facing the country at the time, such as rising prices of essential commodities like onions and safety measures in educational institutions. They delivered excellent presentations and received encouragement from the judges.
