Kashmir Writers’ Association Raises Awareness on Drug Abuse in Anantnag

In an effort to tackle the escalating issue of drug abuse in Kashmir, the Kashmir Writers’ Association hosted a pivotal awareness event at the Shereen Conference Hall,Anantnag. The event drew significant participation from community leaders, intellectuals, and concerned citizens, aiming to shed light on the multifaceted challenges posed by substance abuse and to galvanize collective action against it. The event, marked by insightful speeches and presentations, featured prominent figures who brought diverse perspectives to the forefront.

Hafiz Tariq,a distinguished speaker renowned for his scholarly insights, took the stage to address the audience on the theme of drug abuse within an Islamic context. He underscored the moral and ethical dimensions of the issue, emphasizing Islam’s stance against substances that harm individuals and society at large. Tariq’s address resonated deeply with attendees, stressing the need for a values-driven approach in combating the menace of drug addiction.
Mariya Noor, District Head of the Kashmir Writers’ Association, delivered a stirring keynote address, articulating the association’s commitment to combating drug abuse through awareness and community mobilization. Mariya highlighted the pivotal roles that religious scholars, educators, intellectuals, and civil society members must play in addressing this critical issue. She emphasized the need for a united front against drug abuse, urging all segments of society to actively engage in prevention and rehabilitation efforts. Munaza Jan, known for her expertise in social issues, delivered a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation that meticulously outlined various aspects of drug abuse. From its detrimental effects on health to its socio-economic implications, Jan’s presentation provided a thorough understanding of the complexities surrounding substance abuse. Her data-driven approach underscored the urgency of proactive measures to curb the rising trend of drug addiction among Kashmiri youth.
Dr. Tanveer Ahmad Shah, a respected voice in public health, shared expert insights on the psychological and societal impacts of drug abuse. Dr. Shah emphasized the importance of holistic approaches that integrate medical intervention with community support systems. His address underscored the role of healthcare professionals and community leaders in providing timely intervention and support to individuals struggling with addiction. Mohammad Alim Bhat played a crucial role as the host of the event, ensuring its smooth conduct and facilitating productive discussions among participants. Throughout the event, speakers reiterated the imperative for society to unite in the fight against drug abuse. They called upon religious scholars to impart ethical guidance, teachers to educate and mentor youth, intellectuals to advocate for policy reforms, members of the Kashmir Writers’ Association to lead awareness campaigns, and civil society to actively support rehabilitation efforts. The collective message was clear: only through concerted efforts and community collaboration can Kashmir overcome the scourge of drug addiction and safeguard its future generations.
