Lack of space in Tehsildar office Kupwara, also called Tehsil office is causing immense problems to revenue staff and visitors.

The office witnesses a good rush of people, who visit it for multiple revenue related works.

To make the matters worse, construction of a nearby building supposed to house tehsil office has been left incomplete for past nearly a decade.

“When the building for the Tehsil office was sanctioned, we had hoped for its completion in a couple of years. Sadly, it has been over nine years since the foundation of building was laid and it is still incomplete,” said a Kupwara Civil Society member.

Ironically, construction of a government building adjacent to the tehsil office was completed on time but Tehsil office building still awaits completion.

The employees are facing immense problems due to shortage of space in existing tehsil office, they said.

“In 2005, the tehsil office building was gutted and the office was shifted to record room. We are facing great difficulties carrying out operations from the record room, which lacks space,” said an employee.

“Construction of new building for tehsil office was taken up in 2010 but regretfully it is still incomplete,” he added.

The record room, which at present is housing tehsil office is very old.

“There is no point in renovating the old record room. It will be sheer wastage of money. Instead, the authorities should construct new record room after tehsil office is shifted to new building,” said another employee requesting anonymity.

Javid Ahmad Zargar, Kupwara Tehsildar, said the construction of the building had come to a halt due to paucity of funds.

“But I hope the construction work will resume in near future as we have requested higher authorities for grant of funds,” Zargar added.

Kupwara residents appealed authorities to complete the construction work and make the building functional at the earliest.
