The students from Kashmir in large numbers continued their studies in Mewar University and were imparted education free of cost. There was a period of uncertainty in release of scholarship money from the Government and the students started anticipating the worst. But again Dr. Gadiya decided to bite the bullet and to a large gathering of students he reiterated that their free education will continue till they complete their courses.
There was a time when the Mewar University went into massive debt of around Rs. 37 Crore against loans from banks and private parties. The fund was utilized to provide education, boarding and lodging for the students from Kashmir. At the same time Dr. Gadiya took up the cudgel, running from pillar to post and fighting a prolonged legal battle with the government. He emerged the winner at the end and all students from Kashmir sailed through the sessions completing their education. Ultimately the Government of India released the scholarship money – 50% of the tuition and Hostel fees and the balance 50% was borne by Dr. Gadiya. The financial support extended by him was to the tune of Rs. 40 Cr. He faced a lot of hardship financially, socially and administratively for getting the scholarship amount for these students released from the Government. No matter what the situation, Dr. Gadiya has set a track record as a true philanthropist espousing a mission to serve the poor students of Jammu & Kashmir. The students received quality training and placement and joined the national mainstream. After passing out from the Mewar university, all these students hailing from the poorest of the poor families and representing almost all the districts of J&K are now either in employment or doing their own Business. Mr. Aquib Bashir Mir, who completed his Mechanical Engineering from the Mewar University (2014-17 batch) and works as Service Engineer in an Automobile Enterprise says, “I am proud to say that I am an alumni of the Mewar University. Our Faculty Members were so supportive. I want to mention about our Chairman Dr. Ashok Kumar Gadiya Sir, who was so supportive for those students who struggled and the way he tried to save the future of those students and I fail to express it in words. Mewar University Campus is awesome. I am very grateful to Mewar University for providing me the best opportunity.”
While as an educationist Dr. Gadiya built an identity for him and the Mewar University among the youth of J&K, he saw to it that the students from J&K are provided an ideal environment to study and socialize with other students coming from different regions of the country. They participate in all events and cultural programmes making them more vibrant.
Dr. Gadiya’s contribution has been appreciated by the Indian army. The Indian army is now sending the poor students of J&K to Mewar University under ‘Sadbhavna Scheme’ where 50% tuition and Hostel fees is borne by the Indian army and the balance 50% is funded by Mewar University. At present, more than 650 students from J&K are studying in Mewar University in various courses under this scheme from J&K. The Mewar University has by now set up a sterling record of educating more than 3000 poor students from Kashmir.
His vision is to reach the unreached, make way for the poor youth to join higher education, educate them, train them and help them to find suitable employment and join the mainstream of the society. His resolve is to keep himself engaged in this national duty irrespective of the sacrifice and relentless effort required to be made for this.
