A 20-year old Fiza Nazir is a prominent name in martial arts and inspiring other girls in Kashmir to peruse their dreams with hard work.
She won the Best World Woman Fighter award in 2018. Apart from this, she also won five gold medals in five International matches and also participated in 11 nationals and 5 federations.
“I started playing martial arts in school and gradually my performance improved, following which I have participated in districts and state level of competitions. In year, 2016, I had played my first International match,” she said.
“Besides my father, the whole family has been very supportive throughout my journey. Sportsmanship has been running in my blood,” says Fiza.
She has played and won against countries like China, Bhutan, Philippines etc. The last one she played against South Korea.
Fiza says playing martial arts gives her immense satisfaction and energy.
“Winning or losing is the part of the sports, but giving moral support to a player pushes him/her for success,” she says. So is the dedication of Fiza towards the game that she dropped her academic year.
“One thing I love in sports is discipline. Your brain dumps everything, once you are in the game,” she adds.
“I live in the downtown and during turmoil it becomes difficult for me to go outside, but I always make it a point not to miss my practice classes,” says Fiza.
