Kupwara : The Department of Social Forestry Division Kupwara launched a Mega Plantation Drive at PM SHRI Government High School Tirch Kupwara under the campaign “Ek Ped Maan Ke Naam”, aimed at fostering a clean and green environment.

The drive was conducted under the dynamic guidance and leadership of Shri. Suneesh Boxy Ji (IFS), Director of the Department of Social Forestry (J&K), and Mr. Zahid Aslam Maghul, Regional Director, Kashmir.

The plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and employees of the Social Forestry Department. Hundreds of saplings, including Deodar (Cedrus deodara) and Cypress (Cupressus sp.), were planted during the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Syed Ghulam Rasool Geelani, Block Officer, urged the local community to actively participate in plantation drives to foster an environmentally friendly attitude and contribute to the conservation of forests and wildlife. He appealed to students, teachers, and civil society members to transform afforestation into a people’s movement for a noble cause.

Farooq Ahmad, Headmaster of PM SHRI High School, commended the Social Forestry Department’s efforts, particularly the exceptional contributions of Gh. Rasool Geelani, for his outstanding work in forestry. He highlighted that over the past two years, more than two lakh plants have been planted in the district, significantly boosting the region’s green cover.

Geelani stressed the significance of such initiatives in combating climate change, improving ecological balance, and inspiring community involvement, particularly among young students, to work toward a sustainable future.
