Kupwara : Coaching Centre Kupwara emerged victorious in the grand final of the T20 Police Cricket Knockout Tournament Kupwara, defeating Friends XI Lolab by a convincing margin of 54 runs in a high-scoring encounter played on Friday, at the Cricket Ground, Sogam Gani Pora, played under Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan 2025.
Winning the toss, Coaching Centre Kupwara elected to bat first and posted a formidable total of 204 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. This set a challenging target of 205 runs for Friends XI Lolab.
In response, Friends XI Lolab fought hard but were bowled out for 150 runs in just 17.3 overs, falling significantly short of the required total. The victory was sealed emphatically by Coaching Centre Kupwara’s bowling attack.
The standout performer of the match was Sheikh Junaid from Coaching Centre Kupwara, who was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match. Junaid played a blistering innings, smashing 82 crucial runs off a mere 36 balls, providing the backbone of his team’s imposing total.
The grand finale was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani, ASP Kupwara Dr. Javid Ahmad, DySP Hqr. Mohammad Rafee, DySP DAR Gulzar Ahmad, DySP Sogam Javid Ahmad, Inspector Reyaz Ahmad Mir, SHO Sogam Manisha Kumari , SHO Lalpora Raghav Chaudhary, and other distinguished police dignitaries.
A large and enthusiastic crowd, estimated between 2,500 to 3,000 spectators, witnessed the thrilling contest.
Following the match, the SSP Kupwara, assisted by senior police officials, presided over the prize distribution ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani reiterated the commitment of the department to ensure that youths are kept away from different societal evils, especially drug addiction menace.
“Be it the sports field or education setup, we as a law enforcement agency have played and will continue to play a role to guide our youth at every step for a prosperous future,” the top police officer said.
Extending an olive branch to those still involved in drug smuggling, it’s addiction, and related activities, the SSP said, “If there is anyone who still is involved in any activity related to drugs, he/she is advised to shun it at an earliest, and get back into the mainstream society.”
“We are keeping an eye on those elements who are in way detrimental to the society, and if such elements don’t hold themselves back, we will get hold of them and ensure they get penalised under law.”
Facilitating SHO Lalpora Raghav Chaudhary for exposing an individual offering the police officer bribe, SSP said that this should serve a stark message to everyone around that they won’t get away from the clutches of law.
