Kupwara : Senior National Conference (NC) Leader and Party Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani was accorded a rousing welcome at Kupwara on Wednesday.
As per the news agency, this was Wani’s maiden visit to the area after he was nominated by his party to contest the assembly elections from Kupwara assembly segment.
On his arrival Nasir Aslam was greeted warmly by hundreds of enthusiastic workers who had assembled amidst heavy rains at Drugmulla. Raising slogans in favour of NC and Nasir Aslam Wani the cavalcade straightaway drove to Maqami Shah Wali (RA) shrine where the NC leader sought blessing and prayed for the well being of the people in Kupwara.
Nasir Wani later led the cavalcade to GeerHati where he addressed a public gathering which had commenced to celebrate his nomination.
Nasir addressing the gathering said that NC in an effort to strengthen INDIA bloc took crucial decisions to ensure that those forces which led to the downgrade of Jammu and Kashmir are defeated comprehensively.
“I have several dreams for the people of Kupwara especially the youth and I wish to fulfill those dreams during my tenure as the member of the legislative assembly,” he said, adding that we will ensure protection of jobs and rights on our lands.
“The youth have been bearing the brunt during the past three decades and we have to address all their concerns. Be it unemployment, lack of avenues in sports, underdevelopment in healthcare, education and other sectors, we have to ensure availability of all the facilities,” Nasir said.
Amidst sloganeering by the youth in favour of the NC and party candidate, Nasir highlighted the developmental plans he has crafted for the frontier district.
“We have to ensure that Kupwara is turned into a model constituency not only in Jammu and Kashmir but across the country,” he added.
He said that JK’s status was degraded and the people of the erstwhile state were not even consulted.
“This is for the first time that a full-fledged state was not only bifurcated but turned into a Union Territory. Our rights and dignity were snatched in the most undemocratic manner and we were not even informed,” he said.
Nasir added that the fight for restoration of statehood and Article 370 guarantying special status to Jammu and Kashmir will be taken forward at all costs.
“We will not sit and relax but will continue to agitate democratically and seek back all that has been snatched from us,” Nasir Aslam Wani said.
He appealed the voters to come out in huge numbers and participate in the democratic exercise on Oct 1st when the assembly segment will vote.
“We have to ensure victory by huge margin not only in Kupwara assembly segment but all the segments in the district should be sending NC candidates to represent the people in the assembly,” he added.
Nasir also announced several schemes and proposals which the NC has included in its election manifesto and said that the welfare of the people in the district will be a top most priority—(KNO)
