Not IED, But Old Mortar Shell Recovered in Handwara, Says Police

Srinagar : There wasn’t any improvised explosive device (IED) but an old mortor shell which was recovered by BSF in Handwara, police said.

“An information was generated wherein a Road Opening Party of BSF said it recovered an ‘IED’ in general area of Bhatpura village near a culvert”, a police official told adding “However on a close assessment, the recovered ammunition turned out to be an old mortor shell.”

“The recovered shell may have been lying at the site for a quite a time”, the official further said. (GNS)
