India is a golden sparrow enriched with diverse golden feathers which adds multitude to its grandeur and heritage. As it has been wisely said that food will suffice only then when plants will. But the past many decades have been witnessing a devastating fall of its golden feathers which has wreaked havoc in the country in terms of sustainable loss. The green forests, pure water bodies, natural and sustainable resources, minerals, diverse flora and fauna makes India a rich and a sustainable nation. But to the amazement of humans, it is shedding its feathers and dimming its sparkles. The whole world is witnessing a drastic global warming and degradation of natural resources because of environmental pollution. If we explain environmental degradation, it is the deterioration of the environment through depletion of resources such as soil; the destruction of ecosystems and the extinction of wildlife. It is simply defined as any change or disturbance to the environment perceived to be deleterious or undesirable. Deforestation, Overgrazing, Pollution and climate change are some main causes of environmental degradation. These all the factors can contribute to poverty, as people are unable to produce enough food for their families.
Deforestation has caused a vicious impact on the ecology of our nation. The fauna has lost its habitats which has made them come out of forests. It has eventually threatened human life which causes threat to the animals as well by getting them killed and making them reach the level of extinction. There is no doubt that human life is dependent upon forests. They not only need it for oxygen (O2) and Carbon dioxide (CO2) exchange but they need it for survival and sustenance as well. They need it for construction, raw-material and livelihood. Hence, they are pivotal for the survival of human life. At the same time humans must consider their prominence for the future generations. Exhausting our natural resources will cause our younger ones to starve for basic day to day needs. Heavy deforestation and self-centric approach of humans towards ecological destruction has created a concern among the environmentalists and geologists for the upcoming life. Wildlife has been threatened badly by the relentless deforestation and soil erosion has also been increased. Land sliding has developed uncertainty. This is not the end here. Plastics and polythene have been on forefront to turn the unturned stones to pollute the environment. No water body is left, fertility of land is exhausted and aquatic life is threatened. Man has become so staunchly dependent on plastic that he even unwontedly uses it. It is like a drug developing addiction in the trade market and entrepreneurship that man feels helpless before this poison. These factors have added to pollution and caused global warming. In addition to it, it eventually has threatened the glaciers as well and caused them to melt and create floods, and decrease the volumes and life of the water resources.
There is still scope for correcting measures to protect the environment. There is never too late to start afresh and contribute positivity. Same can be applied to maintain biodiversity and help ecological imbalance. To enrich this golden sparrow, we need to afforest more and more trees. Rather in the case of cutting down a tree, two or three more must be planted. This must be imposed as a rule by the concerned departments to ensure its implementation and the trespassers must be fined. This is the way that can help us have a green and clean environment. Affluent afforestation will not only provide us with refreshed air to breathe and maintain our health but it will also provide safety to the wild life and ensure their habitats.
Regenerative farming is an agricultural practice that focuses on the restoration of soil health and reversing environmental damage. This practice leads to rebuilding soil fertility, increasing biodiversity and reducing the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Regenerative farming also works to improve water retention and reduce water runoff, which can help to reduce soil erosion and improve water quality. In addition to this regenerative farming also works to improve biodiversity by increasing the number of beneficial insects, birds, and other wildlife. Such practices increase crop yield as well which can help to curb poverty.
Moreover, the implication of three R’s that is Reduce, reuse and recycle needs to be followed by letter and spirit in our day-to-day life. It will help us reduce the non-degradable waste which will eventually help the world save earth as well. Even the theme of world environment day 2023 is “ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION” which itself speaks volumes about the alarms ringing around the globe regarding Ecosystem degradation. It is actually a reminder that people’s action on plastic matters as the material is slowly seeping into our oceans, soil and forest and causing irreparable damage. Hence, we need to make sustainable choices in their daily lives, such as reducing waste, conserving energy and water, using public transportation or cycling, supporting local and organic products, and practicing recycling.
Raising awareness about environmental issues and educating others about the importance of environmental conservation can have a significant impact.
