It is also important to note here that emphasis on Education in the Mother Tongue does not mean that other Languages are Considered Inferior or Neglected. In this regard, it is important that Our Present Union Minister Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said that every person should be Proficient in Several Languages, but Education in Mother Tongue Should be the key and Fundamental. That is, the basic Education of a Person Should be in his Mother Tongue, but he Should master as many Languages as he wants according to his interest and hobby and other Academic and Economic Needs.Today the World is interconnected due to the unprecedented advancements in Science and Technology. In such a situation, mastering different Languages opens up new Possibilities for Success.
The fact must always remain in front of Us that by neglecting any Language, especially the Mother Tongue,We not only deal with a huge Cognitive deficit, but also deprive the new generation of its rich Social, Cultural and Ethnic heritage. We would like to consider this.
There are two Languages in the World that everyone can speak or understand without acquiring any knowledge. A Mother Tongue and other Sign Language. Sign Language is Called Universal Language. It is the only Language in the World, Which does not need to be Learned and Mother Tongue is what a Person Learns from his Parents, home and Environment after gaining consciousness. Mother Tongue is not just a Language, but an entire identity.A Whole Civilization is a beautiful Combination of Culture, Emotions and feelings.Transmission and Communication of ideas and information in Mother Tongue is a natural and easy way. The process of thinking and Understanding, Which is formed entirely in the human mind, also unconsciously takes place in the Mother Tongue itself. Man also dreams in his Mother Tongue. The work of communication in the human mind and creative process is also done involuntarily in the Mother Tongue.
The best expression of human creativity is also possible in the Mother Tongue.Naturally, Mother Tongue is also used to express ones thoughts. Human understanding is also directly related to the interaction of human mind and mother tongue.
It is a natural thing that comprehensiveness, breadth and depth in human understanding is possible only in mother tongue. Therefore, the easiest language to learn and teach is mother tongue, there is no other language. Creation and invention are also directly related to mother tongue. In scientific and artistic sciences, the mother tongue is considered to be the best medium for the understanding and communication of the subject itself, scientific ideas. The mother tongue naturally has the breadth and scope to adopt and transmit all modern contemporary sciences including scientific sciences in their original terms without any translation.
Mother Tongue also plays a key role in human identity, identity and character building.
The Emotional and Physical Health, Social Skills, and Cognitive and linguistic capacities that emerge in the early years are all import- ant for success in school, the workplace, and in the larger community.
Every language in which literature can be created is considered the best for transmission of knowledge. While literature is also related to the Mother Tongue. Therefore, in the opinion of Educationists, there is no better Language than Mother Tongue for the medium of education. This is the reason why most countries in the developed world teach in mother tongues.
According to the United Nations Organization UNESCO, the most effective language for children’s early education is the mother tongue. Education in the mother tongue increases the research and creative skills of children. One of the advantages of being taught in the mother tongue is that the child already has a stock of knowledge of his own Language,So there is no boredom during Education. Instead, the Child feels appy.
Education in the mother tongue puts less burden on children’s minds and there is a surprising reduction in the dropout rate of children.
About education in the Mother Tongue, UNESCO says that Children Who begin Education in their Mother Tongue do better from the beginning. Those Who start their Education with unknown Language. UNESCO has also indicated that lack of education in the Mother Tongue is one of the major causes of Low Literacy rate in developing countries. In the policy issued by UNESCO on Primary Education, it is stated that young children should be taught in the Mother Tongue for the first 6 years, so that what the child has learned is not forgotten.
Thus, if We truly love Mother Tongue and are serious about its Promotion,We need to take practical steps with full honesty and realism. While the primary education of children has to be managed in the Mother Tongue, it also has to be ensured that our Teachers are Qualified and Talented Who can really perform the task of teaching various subjects in the Mother Tongue. The Governments new Education Policy, among other aspects, is commendable in that it has given extraordinary attention to mother tongue education, only seriousness needs to be shown towards its practical implementation. If this happens, surely a happy revolution can take place in our country regarding education in Mother Tongue.
The Major Initiative is Taken Under NEP 2020
NIPUN Bharat: The Vision of National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN) Bharat Mission is to create an enabling environment to ensure the universal acquisition of foundational literacy and numeracy, so that every Child achieves the desired Learning Competencies in Reading, Writing, and Numeracy by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-2027.
