The Indian Army, like a saviour, enriched and uplifted lives in Kashmir, going beyond military duties to aid families like Burhan’s.
The Indian Army in Kashmir has consistently been a beacon of hope for the region. From organizing sports tournaments and providing martial arts training to establishing affordable Army Goodwill schools and offering scholarships to Kashmiri students, their commitment to peace and inclusivity is commendable. Even during challenging times of uncertainty and unrest in Kashmir, the Indian Army has consistently promoted optimism and societal betterment. The Indian Army in Kashmir has not hesitated to provide essential services, including free medical facilities in remote villages across the valley. I vividly recall their visits to my village and neighbouring areas, where they conducted free medical camps staffed with doctors. These
camps provided free consultations and medications, catering to prevalent health issues such as gynaecological concerns. Notably, they even included a female gynaecologist in their team to offer free consultations to our mothers and sisters. This initiative underscores the Indian Army’s dedication to the well-being and welfare of the local community, demonstrating their commitment beyond military duties towards uplifting and supporting the people of Kashmir. In this article, today I will share the story of a nine-year-old boy whose precious life was saved by the Indian Army’s intervention after God. In a heartwarming display of dedication and compassion, the Indian Army’s Dagger Division in Kashmir recently facilitated life-saving medical assistance for nine-year-old Burhan Malik, a student at Dagger Parivar School in Baramulla.
The Indian Army, like a saviour, enriched and uplifted lives in Kashmir, going beyond military duties to aid families like Burhan’s.
Burhan, born on August 31, 2015, was diagnosed with a critical cardiac condition that required urgent intervention. However, financial constraints stood as a significant barrier for his family to access necessary medical treatment. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Indian Army’s Dagger Division swiftly intervened to provide essential support. Under the guidance of the Dagger Division, Burhan underwent an initial assessment by Dr. Tariq Rashid, a cardiologist at Government Medical College, Baramulla, on December 22, 2023. Dr. Rashid’s evaluation recommended a catheterization study followed by heart surgery, highlighting the need for advanced medical facilities available in Delhi.
The Indian Army, in collaboration with its medical experts and the Indrani Balan Foundation from Pune, orchestrated Burhan’s transfer and treatment at the prestigious Army Hospital Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi Cantt. This coordinated effort not only ensured timely medical intervention but also navigated the complexities of medical procedures and associated expenses. The successful outcome of Burhan’s surgery serves as a poignant testament to the unwavering commitment of the Indian Army to provide humanitarian aid and essential medical care to those in need. This initiative reflects the Army’s steadfast dedication to serving the community and upholding core values of compassion and service.
In addition to providing vital medical assistance and educational support, the Indian Army actively engages in community outreach programs that promote inclusivity and empowerment. Last year, in August, the Army partnered with a community service group to organize a six-day joint camp for the specially-abled in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. This collaborative effort exemplifies the Army’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive society by providing opportunities and support for individuals with disabilities. By joining forces with community organizations, the Indian Army continues to demonstrate its dedication to serving and uplifting the diverse communities of Kashmir.
Such acts of solidarity and support resonate deeply, showcasing the Indian Army’s profound impact beyond its traditional role of safeguarding national security. The story of Burhan Malik exemplifies how the Army’s commitment extends to improving lives and fostering hope within the communities it serves. Through initiatives like these, the Indian Army continues to exemplify the highest ideals of service and compassion, demonstrating that its mission goes far beyond military duties to enrich and uplift lives across Kashmir and beyond.
