With us, Muslims is the book, the Quran, which we believe is the word of Allah revealed unto Mohammad(peace be upon him) for the guidance of all humanity. Our unshaken belief is that the Quran is the final word from Almighty Allah for humankind’s direction.  We Muslims firmly believe that one (whether man or woman) who follows the teachings of the Quran will lead a peaceful life in the world and the life hereafter as well.
A point arises in the mind about the revelation of the Quran: why was not the revelation one time? Or why the Quran was revealed in 23 years, at different times in different situations? What is the point of making the time-to-time revelation of the Quran logical?  The reasonable reply to the question is that in this way, the apostle unto whom Allah revealed His word could personify the teachings of the revelation through his actions and interpretations. Otherwise, it would be impractical to understand the word without humanistic demonstration. Divine injunctions about Salah, Fasting, Zakat, Haj, Jihad etc could not be tangible without the Apostle’s conduct. Hence, the Quran’s revelation, not once, but in a time-to-time mood, is certainly reasonable.  Thus, understanding the Quran without consulting Mohammad’s life was unlikely, and its consequences should be lethal because everybody would be free to interpret the verse or verses according to his taste and temper.
As the embodiment of Allah’s word, the Qur’an presents Mohammad as the best model or character to follow. It is mentioned in the Quran that Allah’s messenger is the best example to follow. ( لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَة) Thus, in our day-to-day matters concerning our worldly or spiritual   realms, the Quran admonishes us to resort to the embodiment of the Quran, the Mohammad! Hence, following Mohammad (pbuh) is as good as following Allah or Allah’s word. The Quan, thus, categorically makes Mohammad’s tradition unavoidable.
Now, the question arises as changing times fetch with them the matters and affairs where people cannot find solutions directly from the Quran and its embodiment (The Mohammad), then what is the alternative to overcome the issue? The reply to this is Ijmah, the majority of Muslim people and their scholars producing one opinion about a particular matter. Prophet Mohammad’s tradition is: “My ummah will never converge upon a nefarious act.” In the context of the prophet’s saying, what is clear is that making pronouncements about the matters of Islam or producing injunctions is not every Tom, Dick and Harry’s task, nor of Madrassa Molvi like Azhar Masood etc. But Ijmah demands endorsement about a particular matter from  the Ummah’s majority and its scholarly men.
Let’s see in the light of the Prophetic saying and the historical facts whether the armed fight fueled and supported by Pakistan against India in Kashmir is Jihad or an unIslamic and sinful act.
We should first see if the partition of India was Islamic. Is there anybody who dared say that the bloody division of the country was Islamic because the Muslims around the world and their scholarly representations had endorsed the idea of bifurcating the state? Prominent Muslim scholars such as Molvi Hussain Ahmad Madni, Abul Kalam Azzad, Abdul Maajid Daryabaadi, Moulana Hasrat Mohani and even Moulana Moudoodi were against the idea of partition. Had the idea been rooted in the spirit of Islam, these scholars could have supported it without even giving it a second thought. The two-nation theory, whose bloody child was Pakistan, was a political movement of Muslim feudal lords of India who were seeing their feudal lordship endangered in the Indian National Congress Party’s Socialist political ideology.  The idea of Pakistan, a ‘homeland’ to Muslims of India, is a political brain-child of Muslim feudal lords to secure their estates. It had nothing to do with Islam. But it was put into action in the name of Islam to evoke and move Muslims at large. Otherwise, the truth is the idea is unIslamic. There is no concept of homeland in Islam. Prophet Mohammad has said that Allah has made all the earth a mosque for me, so a Muslim can pray wherever he wishes.
Viewing the 2-nation theory as Unislamic and politically flawed, Kashmiri Muslim leadership and people supported accession with India. Accession with Pakistan was not an Islamic Obligatory Political Task that Kashmiri Muslims needed to carry out at any cost. Otherwise, they would lose their faith. It was not our religious issue but a political matter, which our leadership resolved by choosing India’s dominion. Pakistan is straightforwardly a state now where Muslims are in the Majority such as Iran, Turkey Egypt etc. Its name, Pakistan, does not specify its different character that makes us religiously bound to accede to it.
The Renowned Muslim scholars of the present and the recent past have rejected and condemned the armed struggle in Kashmir propagated as Jihad. Late Dr. Israr, Dr. Ghamdi, Dr. Naik, Dr. Tahir ul Qadri and late Wahid u Din Khan have denounced the ongoing armed scuffle against India in Kashmir. Kidnapping, throwing grenades into public places, and suicide bombing are not the teachings of Islam. These are all devil’s designs.  How can it be? Because according to the teachings of Islam, killing an innocent person is as good as killing the entire humanity.  Can anyone cite an instance proving the kidnapping of a person from the prophetic period of Islam?
The truth is some local politicians of secessionist ideologies funded by ISI of Pakistan misinterpreted the Quranic verses and provoked the youth to hold arms against the state when the truth is that no Muslim country openly supported armed struggle against India nor did Muslim scholars give their nod to it. Had this ‘struggle been a Jihad, Muslim scholars and the Muslim states would have endorsed and supported it. Ordaining Jihad is the calibre resting with the Islamic State, not an individual or a group. And Pakistan is not an Islamic State, headed by a Caliph representing all the Muslim countries across the globe. If we assume Pakistan is an Islamic State, all the Muslim countries are Islamic States, and their heads are entitled as Caliphs representing Ummah. But it is not a fact! Hence, the armed struggle in Kashmir is Unislamic and is a sinful act perpetrated by Pakistan and all those Kashmiris directly or indirectly associated with it.
We Kashmiris need to be extraordinarily cautious about all those misinterpreted ideologies that will misguide our youth and lead them to radicalization. The misinterpretation of Jihad made our youth uphold arms and other violent ways against the state, which yielded nothing valuable but the loss of lives and assets. Treacherous people are sitting across the border and within Kashmiri society exploiting religion to earn money, fame and political interests. They are disguised wolves!
