The world is full of giant buildings, skyscrapers, colossal towers, railway tracks, national highways, and tunnels of hundreds of kilometres (KMs). During the night, the large cities illuminate as they look under daytime sunlight. Today, most countries are on their way to becoming developed.
Development: Development is the dream of any nation’s people. There are several sectors that take part in the overall development of the country and generate employment, catering full-fledged facilities to its people and to tourists who come from different corners of the world. Direct or indirect development is being taken into consideration to empower the main focusing sectors of the country like tourism, agriculture, horticulture, transport, aerial transport, science and technology, and the health sector by installing new and advanced machinery for the better treatment of patients. Everything from small to large that we are enjoying reaches us after the hard labour of workers who are working in different sectors to make our tasks easy and give us respite from difficulties.
In this article, I am going to explore the rights of workers and labourers. Labour, or workers, plays an immense role in the overall development of a country. Workers are the backbone of the nation’s development and work hard during the day and night to make us comfortable. Every year since 1923 in India, on May 1st, labourers’ or workers’ day has been observed throughout the country. On May Day, various seminars and rallies are being held at various central places to keep the legitimate rights of the workers and awareness of labour rights disseminated among the labour class, as they play an immense role in the overall development of the nation without complaining about what they are facing.
On this day, writers and authors highlight the rights of workers through various mediums like electronic media and print media. Students at the college and school levels conduct seminars raising various issues the labour class faces today. The government has taken various initiatives and launched schemes for the upliftment of the labour class, like providing scholarship schemes to their children. A labour scholarship provides some scholarship amount to their children who are studying at various levels, providing marriage assistance to their daughter after proper formalities.
Under MGNREGA, 100 days of work are provided to safeguard their employment, and various benefits are provided. More schemes should be launched for the workers, like loans on subsidiary rates, job reservations for their qualified children, AAY ration cards, and domestic gas should be provided on special subsidiary rates so that workers earn their livelihood in a very convenient way, and appreciation bonuses should be given on festivals so that they purchase essential home commodities and feel happy.
Those who lost their lives while working and their families should be brought under new policies, and all the legitimate rights of the labour class should be kept and awarded through different mediums.
