Police freeze illegally acquired money worth Rs 1.25 cr of notorious drug trafficker in Sopore

Sopore : Jammu and Kashmir Police in north Kashmir’s Sopore area on Tuesday freezed and initiated forfeiture proceedings of money worth Rs 1.25 crore of notorious drug trafficker.

An official told the news agency that illegally acquired wealth amounting to Rs one crore twenty five lakhs six thousand three hundred seventy seven rupees of a notorious drug trafficker – Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat of Umerabad HMT in Srinagar, has been freezed.

Bhat was arrested under the NDPS Act earlier this year along with the banned drugs.

The proceedings and freezing of the account of the notorious drug peddler came to fore following thorough investigation by Police Station Bomai in a case under FIR number 26 of 2023 under section 8/22 of the NDPS Act of PS Bomai, the officials said.

“Bank accounts of the accused person in which huge illegally acquired wealth amounting to Rs 1.25 crores was ordered to be freezed/attached and forfeiture proceedings of said illegally acquired property was taken up with the competent authority, New Delhi in accordance with the provisions of Chapter VA of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985,” the officials said.

“The property (Bank Balance) has been illegally acquired from the income earned through drug trafficking and is of recent origin and does not commensurate with the sources of the income of the accused,” said a senior police officer.

The official added that the accused person was previously also found to have been involved in cases under FIR number 337/2013 U/S 8/22 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Parimpora, FIR number 92/2020 U/S 8/21, 22 & 29 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Ram Munshibagh Srinagar and FIR number 121/2015 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act of Police Station Sumbal.

Meanwhile, the investigation in the case under FIR number 26 of 2023 under section 8/22 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Bomai is still in progress and more proceedings are in follow-up, the official said.

Pertinently, Parveez – a notorious drug trafficker was arrested on 15-06-2023 by a Police party headed by SHO PS Bomai, Bilal Khanday under the supervision of SDPO Zaingeer during Naka at Wadoora Payeen—(KNO)
