Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon today had a day long visit of Kupwara district during which he carried series of activities and reviewed developmental profile of the district with PRIs and administration.

Dr. Asgar Samoon, who is also Mentor Secretary for Kupwara District, on reaching here convened a joint meeting of PRIs and Officers of District Administration and reviewed the developmental profile of the district at D.C Office Complex Kupwara.

Chairman DDC Kupwara, Irfan Sultan Panditpori; Vice Chairman DDC, Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir; Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Doifode Sagar Dattatray; SSP Kupwara, Yougal Manhas, Presidents of MC Kupwara, Handwara and Langate, DDC Members, BDC Chairpersons, besides, District and Sectoral officers attended the meeting.

The Deputy Commissioner Kupwara briefed the Principal Secretary about the developmental profile of the district on the occasion.

During the meeting, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon received detailed feedback of the developmental activities from the PRIs and talked to various heads of the departments over phone including Chief Engineer PHE, Chief Engineer R&B, Director Health Services Kashmir and Director Animal Husbandry and resolved the issues on spot which were projected by the PRIs. He also asked to these Heads of the departments to personally visit the district to resolve the issues on spot.

Dr. Samoon said that Kupwara district is marching towards the development and prosperity as various mega projects are under execution in the district. He said there is need to showcase the district including its tourism potential and developmental avenues for dairy sector in the district. He stressed the need to further upgrade the basic amenities of water supply, road connectivity, education and health sector. He said the aim of his visit was to review the overall development scenario of the district and to redress the grievances of the public.

Responding the demand projected by Chairman DDC Kupwara regarding Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), the Principal Secretary talked to Director Animal Husbandry and other concerned officers and was informed that the required medicine has already been ordered and will reach to Kupwara within 2 to 3 days. He also asked Director Animal Husbandry to develop dairy sector as it has a good potential and scope in the district. He was informed that over 20000 vaccines have been administered to the animals so far. He was also informed that there are 763 cases of LSD in the district and so far 42 deaths have been recorded. He directed Chief Animal Husbandry Officer to reduce the animal mortality rate by intensifying treatment and healthcare facilities.

Regarding scarcity of water supply projected by various PRIs, the Principal Secretary stressed the need for channelizing water resources in a better way adding that Kupwara district has no shortage of water resources.

Regarding water harvesting and construction of Amrit Sarovars, he said that Kupwara is No. 1 in the country for construction of Amrit Sarovars. He also directed that water tankers should be provided wherever required.

Regarding functioning of Kashmir University campus, Dr. Samoon asked concerned DDC Member Hyhama to visit Secretariat so that the issue can be discussed with concerned authorities at higher level. He also asked DDC Members and BDC Chairpersons to visit Secretariat for resolution of major issues which needs attention of higher authorities.

Regarding the demand projected by President MC Langate regarding drainage project, Dr. Samoon talked to Chief Engineer R&B and asked him to give technical sanction of Rs.5 crore drainage project Handwara and also asked him to visit Kupwara on 24th of this month to resolve various other issues on spot. He also directed him to ensure macadamization of Kupwara and Handwara towns.

The issue of Administrative Approval of Bus Stand Handwara and Bus Stand Kupwara was also resolved by talking to concerned authority. Other issues including construction of ongoing Court Complex Handwara was also telephonically put up with the concerned higher authorities.

 

Regarding shortage of doctors and paramedics in various health institutions of the district, Dr. Samoon talked to Director Health Services Kashmir and asked him to provide necessary staff to health institutions. He also asked CMO to provide necessary machinery equipment and services of drivers for ambulances.

 

Earlier, the Chairman DDC Kupwara and Vice Chairman DDC, besides, DDC Members and BDC Chairpersons spoke on the occasion and projected their issues. They also informed the Principal Secretary that various developmental works have been completed and they are satisfied and thankful to the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara for his time bound approach towards the resolution of public grievances.
