The residents of Kandi hamlet in Rajpora Tehsil in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, has been connected with the road for the first time after 75 years of independence.

This has brought joy on the faces of the residents as the village comprising approximately 809 households was not even connected to the district headquarters until now.

People used to walk approximately 7-8KM to reach the market or for any emergency medical services. For the very first time, people from the area are getting school buses and ambulance services on their doorsteps.

Locals of the area said this area had no road connectivity till this year and they were suffering in absence of road connectivity.

“We had to carry goods on our back or horses and if anybody got sick, we used to take him/her for treatment on our shoulders,”Mohammad Aslam, a local resident said.

They said while the people elsewhere were getting advanced facilities, they were suffering immensely and craving for basic facilities of road connectivity for past seven decades.

“The students, children, elderly people and patients used to face hardships on daily basis, the marriage proposal of the local boys and girls were rejected due to non availability of proper road connectivity to the village,” Irshad Ahmad Khan, a local said.

The locals said they brought this issue into the consideration of higher ups dozens of times but till date nothing was done.

“Finally our plea was heard by the authorities and hundreds of households have been provided road connectivity,” the locals added.

The residents of the area extended their gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary and officials of R&B department for fulfilling their long pending demand.
