SRINAGAR : With an aim to gather first-hand account of preservation and conservation works as well as status of State Protected Monuments across UT, the Department of Archives, Archeology and Museums, J&K has launched Mission Inspection from 25th to 30th of June, 2025.
During this period the teams will inspect 150 works and 54 Protected Monuments across the UT.
Director, Archives, Archeology and Museum, J&K, Kuldeep Krishan Sidha has conceived the initiative and has framed six teams which will be conducting inspection of the works of Department being executed under Capex, Phase-I and Phase-II of the Scheme of Revival, Restoration, Preservation and Maintenance of Architecture and Heritage in Jammu & Kashmir.
The teams will be conducting inspection of each work in the district assigned and also visit the State Protected Monument in the districts to record the status and provide with the recommendations viz a viz beautification and restoration of monuments. The teams will also bring to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner concerned any intervention required for removing encroachments and monitoring of the works under execution.
The teams through Divisional Administration, Deputy Commissioners and PW (R&B) Department will be accompanied by Nodal Officers in the District and Jurisdictional Executive Engineers.
The aim of the mission is to have effective collaboration with District Administrations and Executing Agencies for efficient execution of works and monitoring. The teams will also have needs assessment of the recommendations for Phase-III Projects and heritage monuments to be recommended for notification as State Protection Monuments. Further, the teams will also visit the sites where the works could not be executed as a result of some dispute or litigation or for want of NOC.
The teams will appraise the District Development Commissioners with the status, issues and the intervention required by the District Administration.
Sidha, has expressed the commitment of the Department for playing an effective role towards restoration and preservation of Heritage & Culture in the UT and urges upon the stake holders and executing agencies in particular to adhere to the quality and timelines.
