Six drug peddlers arrested in Kupwara, 9 in last one week: Police

A total of nine arrests of drug peddlers have been made in the last one week in five different cases of Police Stations of Kupwara, Kralpora and Karnah across the district.

In another major action against drug peddlers, Kupwara Police on Friday has arrested six persons involved in peddling of narcotics in two separate cases in the district.

A Police spokesman said, “During a routine naka checking yesterday evening at Kaltha crossing in Karnah , a Police team of Police Station Karnah led by its SHO Mudasir Ahmad apprehended three drug peddlers namely Mohd Altaf Khatana son of Kalamdin Khatana resident of Dragger, Majid Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh resident of Tanghdar Nard and Nisaar Ahmad Mughal son of Mohd Sayed Mughal, a resident of Khawarpara Karnah and recovered 70 grams of Heroin like narcotics substance from their possession. During custodial interrogation, accused Altaf Ahmad Khatana confessed of having jointly concealed some more quantity of narcotics as well as cash derived from narcotics sale near his house.”

The spokesman said that acting upon the confession of said accused, police party along with Executive Magistrate Ist class Chamkote reached the spot and recovered and seized 350 grams of heroin like substance & cash amounting to ?73500 from the spot after it’s identification by the accused. Therefore, a total of 420 grams of Heroin like narcotics substance and ? 73500 cash has been recovered in the case and further investigations are on. Case FIR No. 53/2022 under sections 8/21, 29 NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Karnah in this case of recovery of narcotics and cash.

In another similar action against the drug peddlers, a police team of Police Post Bazar Kupwara led by its Incharge Sameer Ahmad, late in the evening yesterday, during a random naka at Sulkoot Kupwara apprehended three notorious drug peddlers namely Aijaz Ahmad Chechi son of Abdul Majeed Chechi resident of Hafrada, Sheraz Ahmad Khan son of Wali Mohd Khan resident of Manigah and Shahnawaz Khan son of Sarfaraz Khan resident of Manigah Kupwara. On their personal search, Heroin like narcotics substance weighing about 34 grams was recovered from their possession. Case FIR No. 192/2022 under sections 8/21, 29 NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Kupwara and investigation taken up.
