“SKIMS Conducts “Live Workshop” on “MVR with Concomitant Radio Frequency Ablation” (RFA) for Rheumatic Mitral Valve Disease with Chronic AF, on 07 and 08 of December, 2022”

Srinagar : Department of CVTS SKIMS conducted a 2 days “Live Workshop” on “Mitral Valve Replacement with Concomitant Radio Frequency Ablation” (RFA) for Rheumatic Mitral Valve Disease with Chronic Atrial Fibrillation , in Collaboration with Medtronic, India on 07th and 08th of December, 2022. Two patients were diagnosed as Rheumatic Heart Disease with Severe Mitral Stenosis , Moderate Mitral Regurgitation , Severe Tricuspid Regurgitation with Chronic Atrial Fibrillation were admitted in the department of CVTS at SKIMS Hospital, Srinagar. After evaluation by Cardiology department the patients were planned for open heart surgery (Mitral Valve Replacement, Tricuspid Valve Repair ) with Radiofrequency Ablation(RFA). Both the patients were successfully operated during the Live Workshop. During post-operative period the patients were managed jointly by Cardiac Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Resident doctors and ICCU nursing and paramedical staff. Both the patients were operated at the cost of approximately Rs. 1.7 Lacs which is much lower than the cost incurred in other Cardiac centers of the country. Both the patients are doing fine and will be discharged within a few days.

HOD CVTS informed that with this highly technically demanded procedure, hundreds and thousands of patients who are otherwise at the risk of sudden death, will be benefited in future. Further, with this technique, SKIMS has joined a few Cardiac Centers of the country where this procedure is conducted.

He also expressed his gratitude to all his team members, Director SKIMS, Prof. Parvaiz Ahmad Koul for his administrative support. He also appreciated and thanked various departments like Anesthesiology, Cardiology and other departments for their support during the workshop.
