Kupwara : To evaluate the current crime and security landscape in District Kupwara, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Shri Gh Jeelani Wani Ali, chaired a comprehensive crime and security review meeting at the Conference Hall of District Police Office (DPO) Kupwara. The meeting was attended by the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kupwara, DySP Headquarters Kupwara, DySP PC Lolab, DySP DAR Kupwara, Senior Prosecuting Officer DPO, and all Station House Officers (SHOs) and In-charges of Police Posts (IC PPs) from across the district.
Key points on the agenda included enhancing intelligence gathering, Security measures and improving coordination among sister agencies to maintain a strong and effective security network. Officers were instructed to maintain heightened vigilance, particularly in sensitive areas, to prevent any threats to peace and public order.
A detailed discussion was held on the prevailing security scenario and related concerns. Various suggestions and strategies were deliberated upon to establish a coordinated and effective system for ground-level monitoring and surveillance.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of newly introduced criminal laws, with specific focus on challenges related to trial in absentia, activities of Over Ground Workers (OGWs), JKNOPs and the status of pending and disposed cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
SSP Kupwara underscored the need for efficient law enforcement, strict adherence to proper investigative protocols, and timely case resolution in line with updated legal provisions. He directed officers to adopt a proactive approach in addressing drug-related crimes under the NDPS Act and to take firm action against individuals involved in unlawful activities under the UAPA. SHOs and supervisory officers were instructed to enhance their investigative skills by utilizing modern techniques and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Special instructions were issued to ensure the safety and security of non-local laborers and employees working in the district.
In conclusion, SSP Kupwara reaffirmed the police department’s commitment to creating a society free from social evils, while maintaining peace and harmony among all citizens.
