BARAMULLA : In a concerted effort to enhance voter awareness and participation in the elections, a series of activities were on Friday organized under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program at Dak Bungalow, Baramulla.
The program aimed to engage citizens, particularly new voters, in the electoral process and ensure a higher voter turnout.
The event commenced with District Election Officer (DEO) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa flagging-off a spirited New Voter Rally. A large number of first-time voters who participated in the rally, traversed through the main town of Baramulla, promoting an important message to participate in the elections to shape the future of the nation.
On the occasion, various programs were organized to promote voter awareness. These included an election-themed drawing competition, where participants creatively highlighted the significance of voting, and a signature campaign, during which individuals pledged their active participation in the elections.
A Plantation drive was also conducted under the initiative ‘Ek Ped Shaheedon Ke Naam.’ The DEO and other officers planted saplings at Dak Bungalow Baramulla. The drive aimed to honor martyrs and promote environmental sustainability.
Additionally, the DEO flagged-off an E-Rickshaw rally, which traversed through various parts of the town, spreading the message about the importance of voting in an eco-friendly manner. The initiative is part of the district administration’s efforts to promote sustainable practices while raising awareness about the electoral process.
Speaking on the occasion, Minga Sherpa emphasized the importance of voter education and active participation in the democratic process, highlighting the role of SVEEP in ensuring that voters are informed, aware, and motivated to take part in the elections.
The SVEEP program was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Syed Qamar Sajad; Chief Planning Officer, Javaid Ahmad; Deputy District Election Officer, Abdul Rehman and various other district officers.
