Kupwara, June 05 : World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm across district of Kupwara, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices.One of the major events was organized at Townhall Kupwara through the mutual collaboration of the MC kupwara and the Department of School Education.
The event was graced by Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kupwara, Ab Majeed Dar, who attended as the chief guest, and Executive Officer (EO) of Municipal Council Kupwara, Ms. Farahana Shoukat, who was the guest of honour. Various speakers, including students from different educational institutions, emphasized the significance of the day and addressed the emerging environmental issues and challenges.
Chief Education Officer kupwara in his speech stressed to adopt healthy lifestyle and food habits to overcome the menace of various kinds of pollution. He stressed the students to become the agents of change and convey the importance of environmental conservation across the society.
EO MC kupwara,Ms Farahana shoukat in her address said that the day calls for a collective action to reaffirm our commitment towards sustainable development.
Mohsin Hamid, Resource Person and lecturer at BHSS Sogam, and Rayees Masroor, District Coordinator of the Cultural Education Wing, delivered insightful speeches on the theme “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.” Their talks underscored the urgent need for concerted efforts to combat land degradation and promote sustainable land management practices.
During the event, CEO Kupwara and EO Kupwara led the participants in a pledge to commit to environmental conservation. Ms. Farahana Shoukat, in her address, expressed gratitude to all the guests and participants for their active involvement in the event.District Coordinator CEW hosted the program, ensuring a smooth flow of activities. Following the formal proceedings, CEO Kupwara and EO Kupwara spearheaded a plantation drive and a cleanliness drive, reinforcing the practical commitment to environmental protection.
Simultaneously, a similar event took place in Handwara, where ADC Handwara Aziz Ahmad (JKAS) and Deputy CEO Kupwara Manzoor Ahmad Bhat attended the program.They spoke on the occasion, emphasizing the crucial role of community participation in environmental conservation efforts.
Early in the morning A nature walk and a plantation drive was organized by the education department in collaboration with the Kamraj Forest division in which DFO Kamraj Shri Anurag sir attended as the chief guest.He led a nature walk from DFO office accompanied by District coordinator CEW Rayees Masroor,ZCC Kupwara Mushtaq Dar and Principal LADP School salkoot Showkat Ahmad, and later a plantation drive.
To celebrate the day,similar events were reported from all the 13 educational zones of the district kupwara including frontier area of Machil,Keran and Karnah sectors where students and teachers participated in these events and activities.
The celebrations across Kupwara district were marked by a collective resolve to address environmental challenges and foster a culture of sustainability among the community. The events not only raised awareness but also inspired actionable steps towards a greener and more resilient future.
