Young social activist from Lolab, Mehnaz Rashid bags Young achievers with the ‘Kashmir Young Leadership Award 2021.
Mehnaz Rashid a young social activist hailing from district Kupwara, Sogam Lolab was awarded and was facilitated by Lieutenant Governor J&K Shri Manoj Sinha as a Young achievers with the ‘Kashmir Young Leadership Award 2021′ during the Kashmir Leadership Summit at SKICC.
Mehnaz Rashid is a change maker who has been instrumental in helping poor and orphan girls in their marriage. She and her team distributed food kits to 1000 needy families in district Kupwara. Mehnaz also shared food kits on occasions like Eid. She has also done several plantation drives in Lolab valley to make it greener.
Sensitised to the plight of the downtrodden since childhood, Mehnaz Rashid, found her calling in social work, particularly for orphans and women.
Mehnaz have been working for improving the lot of women of underprivileged sections. In the first of its kind mass marriage in Kupwara district more than 50 women were married off in last 2 years,”. She says, adding her aim is to help families that don’t have resources to organise weddings. “Some parents say they have no option but to sell their land or household items to arrange the wedding. And a majority have small portions of land, so me and my team stepped in,” she says.
As many as 46 Young achievers for various fields including health, education, sports, adventure sports, social work, journalism, environment conservation, Art, Music, Women empowerment, etc have been awarded on the occasion.
