Kupwara : In an initiative to boost the market linkages for Non-Timber Forest Produce (NTFP) traders, the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department’s Kamraj Forest Division held a comprehensive workshop on tuesday. The event aimed to support NTFP traders and BMCs (Biodiversity Management Committees) in strengthening their market connectivity and understanding of trade dynamics.
The workshop included discussions led by an expert team from Amritsar, Punjab, who met with local NTFP depot holders to provide insights on improving import and export channels for NTFP products. “With growing demand in urban and international markets, our goal is to ensure local traders in Kupwara can access these opportunities effectively,” stated a member of the Amritsar team.
Local NTFP traders expressed optimism about the initiative, viewing it as an essential step toward securing better market access. “This workshop opens up new avenues for us to connect directly with larger markets, which will help stabilize our incomes and bring more value to our forest products,” said one participating trader.
DFO Kamraj, Mr. Anurag Arya, IFS, who organized the workshop, emphasized the department’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth for NTFP traders in the region. “Our aim is to empower local traders by providing them with the knowledge and resources needed to succeed in a competitive market. The Forest Department is dedicated to facilitating such initiatives that bridge gaps and strengthen market access for NTFP products,” he remarked.
This workshop marks a significant step forward in enhancing the economic potential of Kupwara’s natural resources and fostering sustainable development within the local communities.
