Within two years of its inception, the event has already gained national recognition as one of India’s most scenic and spirited races. Its route, framed by snow-capped peaks and autumn gold, offered runners not just a physical challenge but a visual poem of a land rediscovering its rhythm. The marathon is not only an event or a normal race it is a statement a declaration of unity peace, optimism and progress over conflict and terror and a tight slap on those who try to derail Kashmir. What made this year’s marathon remarkable was not only its scale but its symbolism. Once known for curfews and conflict, the same streets now echoed with the rhythmic beat of sneakers and cheers of encouragement. Every stride taken by the participants seemed to write a line in the Valley’s ongoing narrative of recovery and renewal. For many, this was not merely a race against time but a run beyond fear towards a new sense of belonging. Especially the timing of the event, it came right after the recent inhumane terror attack in Pahalgam claiming dozens of innocent lives and sending waves of grief locally, nationally and internationally. An attack the left Kashmir’s tourist hotbeds deserted and economy plummet for months. This event reflected the collective dedication of the government, administration, and the people of Kashmir towards building a safe, vibrant, and prosperous region, regardless of the challenges that come their way

The participation of international runners from different countries adds another layer of meaning, reinforcing Kashmir’s place on the global map not as a flashpoint of tension but as a destination of peace and endurance. Their presence spoke louder than any slogan that Kashmir is open, safe, and welcoming. For the tourism sector, the marathon served as a soft yet powerful campaign, projecting the region’s natural beauty and cultural warmth to a global audience. Participants from across India and abroad expressed immense joy at being part of the Kashmir Marathon 2025, describing it as both exhilarating and deeply emotional. Runners from other states and countries said they felt completely safe and welcomed throughout their stay, praising the warmth of local hospitality and the seamless security arrangements. Many noted that running through the scenic routes of Srinagar offered not just a test of endurance, but a glimpse into a peaceful and vibrant Kashmir that defied old stereotypes of shutdown, stone pelting and long hartals.

Local residents, too, shared their delight at witnessing such a grand event unfold in their city. Many said the marathon had brought a new sense of pride and belonging to the Valley, turning the streets of Srinagar into a festival of energy and togetherness. Audience lined up along the route spoke of how the event reflected the growing sense of normalcy and confidence among people. Locals expressed that hosting such an event after the Pahalgam terror attack holds great significance for Kashmir’s tourism industry, symbolizing renewed hope. They appreciated the government’s efforts in making it possible, seeing it as a strong message of stability and confidence in the Valley’s growing tourism sector.

“Seeing runners from across India and other countries here makes us feel connected to the larger world again,” said a young volunteer from Srinagar. Another local participant remarked that the marathon symbolized “a new chapter of peace and participation” for the people of Kashmir.

Residents widely appreciated the administration’s efforts in ensuring safety, traffic management, and civic coordination, noting that the marathon showcased both Kashmir’s natural beauty and its welcoming spirit.

As the event reached its grand conclusion, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, accompanied by senior officers and dignitaries, joined the felicitation ceremony, where prizes worth over ₹2 million were awarded to the winners and top performers marking a proud celebration of excellence and sportsmanship.

Addressing participants, marathon enthusiasts, and officials, the Lieutenant Governor lauded the event as a reflection of Kashmir’s enduring spirit and the unifying power of sports. “The soaring spirit of the runners testifies to the marathon’s ability to strengthen brotherhood through shared experiences,” he said. He expressed pride that the Kashmir Marathon has infused a new sense of passion among people, inspiring a generation of runners while simultaneously enhancing Kashmir’s identity as a global sporting and tourism destination.

Highlighting the rapid transformation Jammu and Kashmir has undergone in recent years the Lieutenant Governor told international participants that this progress was made possible under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and with the efforts of local administration and resilient spirit of Kashmiris. He described Jammu and Kashmir as “the crown jewel of India,” blessed with unmatched natural beauty, a vibrant cultural heritage, and timeless values of peace and harmony. He credited the Prime Minister’s vision for ushering in a new era of modernity, spiritual resurgence, and economic revival in the region.

Calling the marathon more than just a sporting event, LG Manoj Sinha urged citizens to see it as a platform to showcase Kashmir’s cultural richness, arts, crafts, and traditions to the world. “Let us use this international event to project our handicraft, handloom, and tourism sectors globally,” he said, emphasizing that the marathon’s growing global profile would serve as an economic catalyst for tourism and local livelihoods.

So, the Kashmir Marathon 2025 concluded not merely as a sporting event but as a defining statement of hope, unity, and transformation for the Valley. What once echoed with uncertainty now resounded with cheers and determination as over a thousand runners from across India and 17 countries turned Srinagar’s streets into a canvas of resilience. The marathon symbolized a collective stride towards normalcy and renewal, embodying the spirit of a region reclaiming its rhythm after years of turbulence. With the theme “A run towards fitness & tourism revival,” the event successfully blended athletic passion with a larger message of peace and progress. It showcased how sports can transcend boundaries and heal divisions, proving that Kashmir’s identity extends far beyond conflict it is a land of beauty, endurance, and cultural warmth. The participation of international runners further reinforced the message that Kashmir is open, safe, and welcoming, while the seamless organization reflected the administration’s vision of stability and confidence. For tourism, the marathon served as a global invitation, projecting the Valley’s charm and hospitality to the world and rekindling faith in its potential as a premier destination. The felicitation by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha added both prestige and political significance, highlighting how collective efforts of citizens and governance are shaping a modern, peaceful Kashmir. As the event drew to a close beneath the golden hues of autumn, it left behind more than medals it left a message: that the new Kashmir runs not from its past, but towards a brighter, united future. The rhythmic footsteps of the marathoners will echo as a reminder that peace is built one stride at a time, and the Kashmir Marathon 2025 is that another defining stride towards harmony, pride, and global recognition.
