Madiha Talat converts local herbs into organic beauty products, encouraging entrepreneurship, independence, and development through her brand Ru Posh
Madiha Talat, a young entrepreneur from Srinagar, is the founder of Ru Posh, an organic skincare brand made from Kashmiri lavender and local herbs. People lovingly call her the Lavender Girl of Kashmir because she has built her brand around lavender farming and natural beauty products. Her journey shows how dedication, education, and belief in local resources can create meaningful change.
Madiha completed her studies at the International School of Business and Finance (ISBF), which is affiliated with the University of London, in Delhi. Later, she pursued her master’s degree in Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the National Institute of Technology Srinagar. She also completed a diploma in Organic Formulation from the Institute of Personal Care Science in Australia to learn how natural skincare products are made.
After finishing her education, she decided to return home and start something of her own. The idea of Ru Posh came to her when she noticed that more people were choosing natural and chemical-free skincare products. She realized that lavender and other locally available herbs could be used to make high-quality skincare items. With the assistance of her father and the government’s initiative to promote the cultivation of lavender and startups, she began cultivating lavender and establishing her brand. The meaning Ru Posh means the soul of the flower, symbolizing her deep relation with nature.
Today, Ru Posh offers around 20 skincare products. These include facial oils, toners, serums, anti-acne gels, face wash, sunscreen, and handmade soaps. She plans to increase the number of products in the future. At present, she mainly sells her products through exhibitions and business partnerships to create awareness about her brand.
Some of her most popular products are Vitamin C and Vitamin E serums mixed with lavender essential oil and rosehip oil. As Madiha explains, every ingredient in the face mask has its own advantages. Rosehip oil reduces dark spots and repairs sun damage. Lavender oil controls acne and has a soothing effect on the skin. Vitamin C brightens the skin, while Vitamin E maintains healthy skin and stimulates collagen production.
One special product of Ru Posh is the handmade saffron and lavender soap. The process begins with harvesting fresh lavender from the fields. The essential oil is extracted through a steam distillation method. After that, the soap is prepared using the cold-process method so that the natural qualities of the ingredients remain intact. At the end, saffron is added on top to enhance the fragrance and value of the soap.
Lavender is also known for its calming effect. It helps reduce stress and improve sleep. Ru Posh also offers lavender pouches that people can use for relaxation. In the coming years, Madiha plans to expand her brand into hair care, body care, and perfumery.
While dealing with customers, she realized that many people do not follow a proper skin care routine. Earlier, people were not using sunscreen on a daily basis, which resulted in skin problems such as pigmentation. She recommends applying sunscreen and taking special care of the skin, especially in winter when it becomes dry.
Madiha also participated in several exhibitions in Delhi and Srinagar to showcase her products. This has been beneficial for her as she has been able to reach more customers. She also partners with other manufacturers in Jammu and Kashmir for products like diffusers, air fresheners, and incense sticks, which support other small-scale businesses.
Her work has also been recognized at a higher level. The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has referred to her brand in his speeches on women entrepreneurship and self-reliance, which has inspired her to work even harder.
Madiha thinks that startups can help create jobs and develop the economy. She is doing her bit by using local lavender, making products in the region, and partnering with local people. She also encourages young people to start their own businesses and help each other out.
Madiha Talat’s journey from being a student to a successful entrepreneur is very inspiring. Through Ru Posh, she has shown that with the right use of local resources, businesses can be set up. Her story has proved that with knowledge, hard work, and confidence, dreams can grow like the lavender fields steadily and beautifully.
