In the last few years, there has been a massive change in the Indian education system. The new National Education Policy has shifted the focus from getting enrolment in educational institutions to giving an actual education to the students through skill development so that they can have a good career in the future. Kashmir is one such place where the education system is preparing the children for their careers and helping them realize their dreams.

For many years, going to school meant fulfilling the requirements of the education system and learning how to read and write so that you could get a job. Today, education is seen differently. Learning will no longer take place in classrooms only with blackboards and textbooks. Smart classrooms with digital boards, internet, and interactive tools are allowing students to learn in ways that are more fun and easier to participate in. Students can now create knowledge through videos, simulations, and real-time discussion instead of just listening passively.

Digital learning has opened more doors to students than ever before. Students in rural areas have access to web-based resources as do students in urban areas. Online platforms, virtual labs, and digital learning tools are bridging the gap. Learning continuity amid challenging situations and with digital transformation proves that learning is possible despite external factors. Teachers have continued to adapt to a rapidly changing education environment with changes in teaching methods, as well as new expectations, so they are also using new technologies while continuing to develop their professional skills. Various forms of training and awareness-building (i.e., digital literacy initiatives) are helping educators find ways to incorporate technology into their teaching practice. This change is not about technology alone; rather, it is about changing our mindset regarding how we teach to make it more interactive, personal to students, and more responsive to individual students.

Consequently, the classroom environment is changing to promote curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. There is an increased emphasis placed on skill based learning. The new education policy encourages schools to start introducing many types of vocational training or practical skills into the curriculum earlier. Coding, entrepreneurship, crafts and communication skills are all examples where students are now being prepared for life, not just exams. The idea is to help develop each student’s individual talents and interest. This shift is especially exciting for students living in Kashmir since their culture is rich, yet they face many challenges that have hindered the quality of education and the ability to obtain education continuity throughout the region.

Now unprecedented change is taking place in schools, as many are beginning to use innovative teaching practices and many parents are starting to see the importance of holistic education. Students now realise that they may not just want to graduate, but they want capabilities that will lead them to be independent and successful. Most impressive is the increase in aspirations by young females in the region as a result of this educational change. Women have been historically constrained by social norms, limiting their choices for professional capacity. On the other hand, at present, women in Kashmir are overcoming these limitations through improved access to educational facilities along with tools that come with the digital age. This gives them the boldness to venture into fields such as science, technology, business, art, and politics.

Education is also providing these women with the ability voice their opinions, to be able to make sound decisions, and to participate constructively in society. The increased visibility of women in various career fields is having a positive impact on society by inspiring other girls to have greater aspirations and pursue larger dreams. Additionally, the families of these women are now starting to value the education of their daughters as an investment towards building a better future for their families.

There are many regions that have a lack of infrastructure or digital tools available to them. Ensuring these women continue to have access to technology, that they receive proper teacher training and that they have access to safe places to learn is critical. Additionally, changing societal attitudes is a slow process and will require continued support in order to ensure these advancements reach all areas of society. The prospects are bright even though there are many obstacles ahead, particularly the new national education policy provides a good base to move forward with an education model that is inclusive, flexible and future-focused. With digital innovation and preparing children for skills, we will have a new generation of children who will have both knowledge and will also be adaptable and resilient.

Kashmir has entered this new age of education and has experienced more than just educational advancement; it has seen its culture and its dreams evolve. The minds of young people are being filled with the ability to think critically, act with confidence, and to dream without limits. For girls in particular, this marks the start of a path toward independence and empowerment. Education is beginning to be used as a tool for change in the true sense of the word. And with the dawn of this new age of education, as this new era unfolds, it promises to transform classrooms and shape the future of generations to come.
