Kupwara: The Construction work on a bridge in Drugmulla area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district was started in 2002 which is still incomplete. The residents of the area are facing a lot, as boats are the only source to cross the river.

During winter as well as rainy season, the using of boats is fraught with risks. When the water level rises in the river, boatmen refuse to ferry people to and fro which results the areas getting cut off from one another.

Residents of the area , said that whenever we approach the authorities, they blame non availability of funds for it. The said bride is one of the important which connects about 8 villages .

Another resident, said on daily basis we are risking our lives by using boats to cross the river .Even we have to accompany children’s to the boats and are always apprehensive about their well-being during cross over. “To avoid any untoward incident, during the rainy days, we don’t send our wards to schools or coaching centers”.

“Whenever we have to travel from Chake-Drugmulla to main market we have to cross the river using boats. Women, elderly persons and children are the worst sufferers. To complete a distance of just one kilometer, it takes us more than an hour,” the locals said

Residents of Chake Drugmulla have appealed LG Administration J&K to resume the work on the said project to avoid any untoward incident .
