In a handout to the police said that on 06/05/2026, a report was received at P/S Kathua through a reliable source stating that two brothers, namely Nakul Singh (18) and Nikhil Singh (16), sons of Late Balbir Singh, residents of Ward No. 10, Kathua, had allegedly been attacked with an intention to kill and were lying in a pool of blood at their house in a critically injured condition. Upon receipt of this information, FIR No. 230/2026 U/S 103/109/333/115(2) BNS was registered at PS Kathua and investigation was put in motion. Both the injured persons were immediately shifted to GMC Kathua for treatment, where doctors declared Nakul Singh as “brought dead”, while the condition of Nikhil Singh was found critical and was further referred to AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu, for advanced treatment. The body of Nakul Singh was shifted for postmortem.

Acting swiftly, police team comprising of SHO Kathua and DSP Hq rushed to the spot, secured the crime scene, called the FSL and initiated legal formalities. During inspection of the scene of crime, it was found that the iPhone belonging to the deceased Nakul Singh was missing. Relevant material evidence was seized and e-Sakshya proceedings were conducted as per law.

During the course of investigation, several suspects were rounded up and questioned in detail. The ESU team conducted CDR/technical analysis, which provided a lead. Thereafter sustained interrogation of suspect Parth Verma @ Sumit, S/o Som Raj, R/o Ward No. 09 Kathua was done in which he admitted his involvement in the commission of crime. The missing iPhone of deceased Nakul Singh was also recovered on his disclosure in front of magistrate.

During interrogation, he disclosed that on 06/05/2026 at around 10:40 AM, he visited the house of Nakul Singh. He further stated that he made a phone call to Mohit @ Bobby from Nakul Singh’s phone at 11:35 AM. At approximately 12:40 PM to 12:50 PM, an argument and physical scuffle reportedly broke out between Nakul Singh and Parth Verma over a love interest, which soon turned into heated verbal exchange, during which Parth Verma allegedly picked up a cricket bat lying in the room and struck Nakul Singh on the head, causing him to collapse.

Meanwhile, Nikhil Singh, younger brother of Nakul Singh, returned home from outside and entered the house. Fearing that he would be caught, the accused allegedly attacked Nikhil Singh multiple times on the head with the same cricket bat, causing him to fall unconscious. After committing the crime, the accused allegedly left the cricket bat at the scene, took away Nakul Singh’s iPhone, and fled from the spot. At around 5:00 PM, the victims’ mother, Jyoti Devi, returned home from the office and discovered her sons lying in a pool of blood.

Further investigation is in progress, reads the statement.(GNS)
